the Z24 dyno mule story

Our first dyno mule is a 1986 D21 Nissan Navara 4x4 fitted with the Z24 petrol engine.

The Z24 has a factory output of 103hp @ 4800rpm measured at the flywheel.  We are going to show how our products can increase this power level.

The main areas we will be looking at is the stock carby being replaced, and we have a couple of ideas for that.  Also the stock exhaust manifold is a typical cast iron 4 into 2 arrangement, but we will be fitting one of our turbo kits (this is TurboDatsun.com after all) so the original manifold will be replaced with a turbo manifold and fitting up the turbo kit to show the performance improvement.

Our aim for this testing is to show that the Z24 engine power output can be doubled by fitting our turbo kit, without having to internally modify the engine.  That means no head work, no porting or bigger valves, no big turbo grind cam, and no forged pistons or fancy head gaskets.  Sure all these things would be great, and all these things definitely let you make more power, but we want to show that they’re not needed to get a decent power increase.

But first we need to show the baseline performance of the stock setup.  And then the end target is double that figure.
